I am not a photographer! No I do not do weddings and stuff!
Photography is the art, application and practice of creating durable images by recording light.
A photographer (the Greek φῶς (phos), meaning “light”, and γραφή (graphê), meaning “drawing, writing”, together meaning “drawing with light”) is a person who makes photographs.
For most people today holding a camera this means only ‘application and practice of creating…’ is applicable. ‘The art…’ can only be applied to a minority of people who are trained and know what they are doing, can motivate a picture taken. Those are the artists, true photographers, respect.
Yes, Ton Janssen knows very well how to handle his Canon Eos, has an eye for what he wants to shoot. He very well knows how to take a shot! A wide variety of subjects is always in his attention. However, his interest is not in basic photography. His main goal is to use his photography, often in combination with calligraphy, typography and/or special effects, to create works of art with a special impact carrying his own ‘signature’. The final result is not only a good looking image on screen; it also contains the technical data to create quality prints.
Long time before digital camera’s showed up, Ton had his first instructions in photography by Franz Kreuzer (Aus) using an Olympus OM1. Learning the basic rules of photography. The basic technical rules still apply but now camera’s do a lot of the thinking. In later years Ton studied at advance levels to improve skills and knowledge.
